FAQs

When are you open?

We are open 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday at both our offices in Wrexham.

What type of instructions do you handle?

We handle conveyancing, family, and probate legal services, which are listed in the links above.

How much will it cost?

Costs vary depending on how complex a matter is, but we lay out a clear pricing guidance on the site on the pricing link above. We will always communicate to you before you instruct us to do work on your behalf and we will speak to you whenever additional unexpected fees or costs are raised to explain them to you.

Do you have a Corporate Social Responsibility policy?

Yes, we understand our corporate responsibility commitments, which you can read more about on the link at the bottom of the page.

How do I know you are qualified?

The practising certificate guarantees that the solicitor is qualified to practise and has insurance to protect you if anything goes wrong. All of our solicitors are qualified, you can review our accreditations on the link at the bottom of the page or please feel free to contact the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Gittins McDonald has received the Law Society’s Lexcel Quality Mark which is awarded following audits that ensure we have good standards of practice in place.

Do I have a specific solicitor assigned to me?

You will always have a specific solicitor assigned to you. If for some reason the person assigned to you is not in the office and you have an urgent query, we have a team of expert paralegals assisting them who will be able to assist you.

Do I have to come into the office to meet you?

We can communicate in face-to-face meetings, via email or over the phone. We tailor our service to your needs.

I was asked to visit the office, how do I get there?

Both of our offices are located in the city centre on the Grosvenor Road and have customer parking to the front of the buildings which you are welcome to use when coming to see us for appointments. 27-29 Grosvenor Road has more parking space for visitors. Directions and Maps are provided in the Contact Us tab. If coming via a Bus service to Wrexham, Grosvenor Road backs on to King Street where Wrexham Bus Station is located, and we are therefore just a five minute walk from the station. If travelling by train, Wrexham General is a 15 minute walk along Station Approach and down Gerald Street to reach Grosvenor Road.

Will my personal details be safe?

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way. We limit access to your personal data to the employees, agents, contractors and other third parties with a business need to know. All staff are fully trained via Legal Eye’s data protection courses and all who are given access to your data are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to – primarily for the provision of legal services as stated in your signed contract and instructions. The use of this information is subject to the Data Protection Act, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulations and our duty of confidentiality.

How long will my matter take?

Every matter is different and will take a different amount of time. We will be open and honest with you when we begin your matter with how long we anticipate your work will take and we will inform you as soon as we suspect this might change.

Presently we advise clients that have a standard residential conveyancing matter to expect a time frame of 8-12 weeks from the date both solicitors confirm they are instructed to the date for exchange and completion.

Following a purchase we will make a submission to register your ownership of the property with HM Land Registry. As of the most recent updates from their service, the average wait time for an HMLR caseworker to review a new submission is around 9 months. We will then seek to deal with any requests they have for further information or documentation as promptly as possible in order to obtain your updated register of title.

What if I need my property purchase registered sooner?

If you need the updated title back sooner than the expected registration date then we can request expedition from HM Land Registry. This puts your application into a priority queue to be seen by a caseworker within 10 working days.

In order to obtain expedition we would need evidence of the need for the title to be returned urgently, either because it is delaying another application – typically a memorandum of sale from an estate agent showing the property is now being transferred again or a new mortgage offer from a lender for the property if you intend to remortgage should be supplied – or evidence that the wait for the title is causing you distress – this could be because the outdated title is preventing you from resolving a family issue or is denying you from obtaining a needed financial grant.
